Feminism
has been a popular context in the society, as it undergoes several
transformations throughout so many years. As a matter of fact, along with these
transformations, feminism has also gained several perceptions which are
manifested in the public’s understanding about the role of women. With the rise
of civil societies, the recognition of women in countries like Iran has also
emerged. For one, it is indicated that women in Iran used to have unequal
rights with men, especially when men are given more priority in different
aspects like work and education. However, intellectual and cultural production
of women has also noticeably improved which then gained equal footing with men.
The religion of Islam, in one way, helped in promoting the growth of women, despite
the fears that surround the change in Islamist ranks, which is, with women
taking over high positions. Nonetheless, these fears are more focused on the
women activists who might negatively affect the relationship between
government, religion and society.
Secularism and modernity in Iran
have paved the way for many things. One of which is the drive to make the
country’s religion stronger and feminism as well. The continued pursuit of Iran
for improvement established improvement in secularism, along with its increased
empowerment for nationalism. Modernity, in that aspect, does not only focus on
improving the way of life in the society and the conditions of the economic and
political sectors in Iran; but, it also involves promotion of women’s role and
participation in different matters like education. Education and work
opportunities are provided and from that context, it can already be purported
that modernity, among other things, is a tool that has helped increase the role
of women.
